Manchester United have officially announced Ruben Amorim as their new head coach, following extended negotiations with Sporting Lisbon. United swiftly agreed to pay Amorim’s €10 million (£8.3 million) release clause after parting ways with Erik ten Hag. However, the deal took longer to finalize due to discussions over the 39-year-old’s required 30-day notice period with the Portuguese club and the logistics of bringing his backroom team to Old Trafford.
Amorim will remain with Sporting until the upcoming international break, with Sporting insisting that he completes his notice period, which means he will still be on the sidelines for their Champions League match against Manchester City on Tuesday.
In a statement, Manchester United said, “We are delighted to announce Ruben Amorim as head coach of the men’s first team, pending work visa approval.” He is set to join on November 11, with a contract running through June 2027 and an option for an additional year.
