The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has announced the 10 nominees for the prestigious 2024 African Player of the Year award, with Nigeria’s Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong making the cut. The shortlist, released on Thursday via CAF’s official social media platforms, features some of the continent’s brightest talents currently excelling in both domestic and international football.
Lookman, who has been a standout performer for Atalanta in Serie A, and Troost-Ekong, Nigeria’s experienced defensive stalwart, will be flying the flag for the Super Eagles in the quest for Africa’s top individual football accolade.
The list also includes Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi, a key figure for Paris Saint-Germain, whose consistent performances for both club and country continue to draw widespread praise. Cote d’Ivoire’s rising star Simon Adingra, who has been impressive with Brighton in the English Premier League, also made the elite group.
South Africa’s Ronwen Williams, currently the number-one goalkeeper for Orlando Pirates, completes the southern African representation on the shortlist.
