Former Super Eagles striker Brown Ideye has sparked major controversy in Nigerian football after revealing shocking details about player welfare at Enyimba FC during the 2024–25 season.
According to Ideye, players were given a meagre ₦7,000 per day for feeding throughout the campaign, a figure that has triggered widespread outrage across social media.
The revelation first surfaced through a post by @PoojaMedia on X (formerly Twitter). Ideye, who joined Enyimba during their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, reportedly made the disclosure during a recent podcast appearance.
“₦7,000 isn’t even enough for one good meal in some parts of Aba,” one user commented, highlighting public frustration with how players are being treated by one of Nigeria’s most successful clubs.
Enyimba FC has yet to release an official statement in response to the claims.
Adding fuel to the fire, Ideye took to his X account on Tuesday night to directly call out the club for failing to pay last season’s match bonuses, which have been outstanding since the league ended in May.
“BECAUSE I GET MONEY I SHOULD NOT ASK FOR THE ONE I WORK FOR? PLEASE PAY ME AND THE PLAYERS LAST SEASON MATCH BONUSES.. @EnyimbaFC
THE SEASON ENDED IN MAY, TILL NOW NOTHING. NEW SEASON WILL START NEXT MONTH,” he wrote.
The comment has added urgency to already growing concerns about transparency and financial management within the NPFL.
